Family Farms

Aren’t most farms corporate owned?

Not at all! Over 90% of almond farms are family farms.

A family affair.

California is home to 7,600 almond farms and 100 almond processors, many of which are family owned and operated. In fact, over 90% of almond farms are family farms,1 many run by third- and fourth-generation farmers who live on the land and plan to pass it down to their children and grandchildren.

Nearly 70% of California almond farms are 100 acres or less,1 but small or large, California’s almond farmers take a long-term view of success based on respect for the land and their local communities.

Supporting our local communities.

The California almond community generates over 110,000 jobs statewide.2 Of those, 102,500 are located within California’s Central Valley, an area with historically high unemployment.

In addition to providing sustained work for their employees, almond farmers and processors carefully manage natural resources, working to protect the future of their families, neighbors, local communities, and the environment. As a way to give back, 80% of California almond farmers and processors participate in organizations, programs or boards that support community well-being.3
